Hey there,
Figma just made its clearest bet yet on what a designer's job looks like with AI.
I think it's the right bet, and I'll tell you why below. Here's what's inside this week:
New video: how I build websites that don't look AI
Big news: Figma puts real code and AI specs on the canvas
The toolkit: an open-source canvas for agents, a website skill and React Bits 2.0
Tutorial: build your own CRM in under 10 minutes
THIS WEEK'S VIDEO
How I Build Websites That Don't Look AI (Full Workflow)
This is my full workflow for building a premium website with Claude Code, from planning it in gray boxes to custom images in one consistent style.
WHAT I'M BUILDING
I built my video editor a search engine

This was my first week back in Asia, Bali.
I love the rhythm here. I start every day with one sport: gym, boxing or surfing.
That one hour recharges me for the rest of the day.
And I needed it, because the content is growing fast and we're raising the bar on every video.
To keep up, I built a tool for my video editor. It's a library of around 600 B-rolls and illustrations, and AI tags every one of them.
He pastes a line of the script, clicks search, and gets the clips that fit.
It took me one day to build.
If you're a designer, you can build tools like this too. You already know how a good tool should feel, and AI handles the rest.
What a time to be alive.
BIG NEWS
Figma just put real code and AI rules on the canvas
On Thursday, Figma held its first Config India and shipped a long list of updates. Here's everything that matters for designers.
Code layers bring real code prototypes onto the canvas. You can convert a frame, import a GitHub repo, bring one in through MCP, or capture a live website with the Chrome extension.
They're in open beta, and editing them is free on paid plans until November 4.
Specs is a new Markdown editor on the canvas. You write your design rules, product docs and intent there, and AI agents read them through the Figma MCP server.
Payload, the open-source CMS whose team joined Figma, now runs inside Figma Make. You can build websites with real content that your marketing team edits without an engineer.
Design systems also got guidelines that agents follow. Figma previewed a system map and a check that finds missing states and descriptions too.
Finally, the Figma agent is now available to everyone, and the MCP server added 20 new partners.
Figma no longer wants to be where you draw the app. It wants to be where you decide what gets built.
Look at the pattern. Code layers, specs, guidelines and MCP all do the same job.
They make Figma the place where AI agents get their instructions.
Claude Code, Codex and Cursor can now write the code. Figma is betting that someone still has to decide what's good, and that this person works in Figma.
I think that's smart, and it's good news for designers. The skill that matters now is writing your taste down so an agent can follow it.
It's also a defensive move. If designers can ship straight from Claude Code, Figma has to hold the rules, or it gets skipped.
Try it: On a paid plan, convert one frame into a code layer.
Then write a short spec with your spacing, type and tone rules, and ask an agent to build from it.
THE TOOLKIT
One tool, one skill and one library
Tool · Tidy
Free · Open source
It's a design canvas where you and your AI work on the same file. Your coding agent can read, create and edit designs on it through MCP, and you can host it yourself.
Skill · /awwwards
Free · Open source
Give it one line like "make me a portfolio" and it acts as creative director, designer and developer. It picks a concept, writes a DESIGN.md, builds the site and tests it in a real browser until it scores 8 out of 10.
Library · React Bits
Free + Pro · React library
Version 2.0 just shipped with reworked components and a new look. You get animated text, backgrounds and micro-interactions, plus free tools to make backgrounds, textures and device mockups.

TUTORIAL OF THE WEEK
Build your own CRM in under 10 minutes
Most teams pay hundreds a month for a CRM they don't even like.
So I built my own with Claude Code to track the creators in my program. It started from a free open-source template and my Notion database.
Step 1 · Start from a free template
Paste the template's repo link into Claude Code, along with your spreadsheet or Notion database. Claude builds the first version around your real data.

Step 2 · Keep chatting to add pages
Ask for one new page at a time, like a videos page or a team page. Every new page matches the main design, so it feels like one real product.

Step 3 · Sync it and deploy
Add your Notion API key so every change syncs both ways. Then deploy it on Vercel for free and invite your team.

Want to see the full tutorial? The whole workflow is in the video, and every prompt is in the free guide.
